Privacy Policy

What happens to information when you read Birdbox or send an email.

Updated 18 October 2026. This policy applies to birdbox.org.uk. Questions about it can be sent to john@birdbox.org.uk.

Reading the pages

The website serves static pages and locally stored images. It does not offer accounts, comments, checkout, a newsletter form or a contact form. This version contains no analytics scripts, advertising trackers or embedded social feeds, and does not set cookies or use browser storage.

When a page is requested, the web hosting server receives technical information needed to deliver it, such as an IP address, the requested address and browser information. The hosting configuration may record access or error logs for operation and security. The length of time such logs are kept depends on that configuration; this website does not specify a separate fixed logging period.

If you email

Sending an email shares your address and whatever you choose to include. That information is used to read and respond to the message and, where relevant, investigate a correction. Email also passes through the email services used by the sender and recipient. Do not include sensitive personal details or precise locations of vulnerable wildlife unless they are necessary for the correspondence.

Correspondence should be kept only for as long as needed to handle the matter and any related record-keeping obligation. To ask about an email you have sent, or request its deletion, contact the address above. Some records may need to be retained where there is a legal reason to do so.

Following a link

Articles may link to organisations that provide identification guidance, conservation information or further reading. Those websites operate under their own privacy policies. Simply reading a Birdbox article does not load their pages or send them your details through an embedded widget.

Your information and future changes

You may contact us about access to, correction of or deletion of personal information contained in correspondence. Applicable rights depend on the circumstances and relevant data protection law. UK readers can also raise a concern with the Information Commissioner's Office.

If the site's functions change, this page should be updated to explain any new data handling. The date above identifies the version of this policy.
